Sophomores who are interested in entering a Ph.D. program in mathematics, computer science, the natural sciences, or engineering after graduation are invited to an information session on Wednesday, March 23, at 4pm to learn how to apply for this highly competitive award. Faculty advisers/mentors are asked to attend along with their students.
Each year, Ithaca College can nominate up to four students for a scholarship awarded by the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation (established by Congress in 1986); these awards are made to outstanding U.S. students interested in a research career in mathematics or the natural sciences who will be college juniors or seniors during the 2012-13 academic year. The scholarship award covers eligible expenses for undergraduate tuition, fees, books, and room and board, up to a maximum of $7,500 per year.
To be competitive, students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and have already begun conducting research at the undergraduate level. Applications are due during the fall 2011 semester.
The meeting will take place in the Cayuga Lake Meeting Room; light refreshments will be served.
