Dominick Tavella, a re-recording mixer, will speak on March 23 at 6 p.m. in the Park Auditorium. Tavella won the Academy Award in the sound mixing category for “Chicago” and was a recent British Academy Award nominee for his work in “Black Swan.”

Over the years, Dominick Tavella has worked at many of New Yorkʼs famous sound facilities. He began his career at DuArt Film Laboratories mixing documentaries and low budget feature films. He then moved to Photo-Mag Sound Studios, where he was able to fine-tune his craft rerecording commercials, music videos, and television shows.

In 1988, Dominick joined Sound One, where he built his reputation among such clients as Paul Schrader, Jim Jarmusch, D. Aronofsky, D.A. Pennebaker, Ric Burns, and Ken Burns. His breadth of experience has led him to continue to make his mark on avant-garde and documentary projects. His documentaries "Jazz" and "New York" were both nominated for Emmy Awards in the best sound category. He was also a CAS Award nominee in the sound mixing category for “Baseball: The Tenth Inning” and “Black Swan.”
