03/30/11

The National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) offers you an opportunity to "test drive” alternative transportation options! Starting at 5:00PM on Wednesday, March 30th, the College will begin welcoming more than 3,300 visitors for the NCUR conference, held from Thursday, March 31st through mid-day on Saturday, April 2nd. In advance, we request the cooperation and understanding of the entire campus community in making this event as welcoming as possible for our visitors.

NCUR Parking Plan

In order to accommodate the extraordinarily high number of visitors participating in the NCUR conference, we need to restrict campus parking areas.

There will be significant changes in traffic patterns and parking availability during the above dates. Please note the following changes and plan additional time to arrive for on-campus commitments. Please refer to the interactive campus parking map to identify these areas. (Highlight the parking lot in the key and a callout box will appear, showing the location of that parking area).

Beginning Tuesday, March 29th:

"G"-lot (blue) will close at 9:00pm and will have limited spaces through Saturday, April 2nd.

Beginning Wednesday, March 30th:

"O"-lot (blue) will have limited spaces beginning at 5:00am

"C"-lot (red) will close at 9:00pm and will be reserved for Graduate School Fair vendors, accessible by special permit only, Thursday, March 31st and Friday, April 1st

"B"-lot (red) will have limited spaces, but will remain open.

Beginning Thursday, March 31st:

"U"-lot (blue), "O"-lot (blue/red) and "S"-lot (red) will close at 5:00am and will remain closed through Saturday, April 2nd at 2:00pm for NCUR participant parking.

Employees and students who normally park in the lots listed above must park in "Z"-lot, nearest Emerson Hall or "Y"-lot, across Rt. 96B.  Courtesy shuttles will be operating from "Z" and "Y" lots to the Textor flagpole from 7:30am to 5:30pm Thursday and Friday.

Courtesy shuttles will be operating from "Z" and "Y" lots to the Textor flagpole from 7:30am to 5:30pm on Thursday, March 31st and Friday, April 1st.

Consideration should also be given to alternative transportation during this event.

The NCUR conference is offering Ithaca College the opportunity to “strut our stuff” to several thousand participants from all across the nation and other countries. The College benefits in many ways from such exposure. You are also invited to attend NCUR sessions and activities as well; please visit https://www.ithaca.edu/ncur2011/ to view the complete schedule and conference details.

Alternative Transportation Options

We encourage all faculty and staff, where feasible, to take advantage of TCAT public transit and ride the bus to campus on these days. Faculty and staff need only present their valid IC ID to board the bus and ride for free. TCAT will follow its normal schedule and routes during these two event periods; for more information about TCAT routes and schedules, visit www.tcatbus.com.

You are also encouraged to check out the new Zimride Tompkins community-wide ridematching site to offer to share or find a ride to/from campus. http://www.zimride.com/tompkins/

Ithaca Carshare members can always take advantage of that program to meet their short-term transportation needs. Use the on-line or phone reservation system to check out the Ithaca Carshare-logo car parked next to the Park Center for Business. www.ithacacarshare.org

Thanks in advance for your cooperation

In past years, we have parked our visitors at the South Hill Business Campus and shuttled them to campus, but that is not an option this year. For future large events, we plan to use the new parking areas that will come on-line as part of the Athletics and Events Center project. So these small inconveniences during NCUR should be viewed as a one-time situation and a great excuse to try out a new way to get to work or school!

We greatly appreciate your understanding in adjusting your transportation and parking plans for the conference dates.
