The School of Music is excited to announce the Mary I. Arlin '61 Award for Distinguished Teaching in Undergraduate Music Theory. This award, which will be given every four years, recognizes outstanding and distinguished teaching in undergraduate music theory courses. It is intended to recognize an individual faculty member for sustained commitment to teaching and for teaching that demonstrates a sustained level of excellence.
The distinguished teacher will excel in the following areas:
• Command of the subject
• Continuous growth in the field
• Ability of organize course material and present it cogently
• Ability of inspire students in original and creative thinking
• Enthusiasm and vitality in teaching and learning
• Accessibility to the students
Eligibility
1. Must be a School of Music faculty member who teaches undergraduate music theory classes.
2. Must have taught for three years as either a full-time music theory faculty member or a lecturer in music theory.
3. Members of the administration above the department chair are not eligible, nor are faculty in the year prior to tenure review.
