Faculty and staff are invited to serve as facilitators during the First Year Reading Initiative (FYRI) Discussion Group which is scheduled for Tuesday, August 30, 2011 (Tuesday before the first day of classes)

These discussion groups provide the Class of 2015 students an opportunity to discuss a book they have read with their peers and faculty/staff facilitators. This year’s book is Ransom by David Malouf.

Faculty are also invited to consider incorporating Ransom into the courses they teach.

Dr. James Swafford has graciously agreed to serve as the faculty coordinator of the FYRI.  Jim will lead discussions during the summer around Ransom and explore ways for us to engage with the incoming student body.  Jim will introduce Ransom to the class 2015 during new student orientation.

Ithaca Seminar faculty are not required to meet their class as part of this event; however Ithaca Seminar faculty are certainly invited to serve as facilitators.

Please express your interest in serving as a facilitator and/or wish to incorporate Ransom into your course(s) to Bashar Hanna at FYRI@ithaca.edu

If you have programming suggestions or ideas on improving our First Year Reading Initiative please contact Bashar Hanna at FYRI@ithaca.edu

Thank you and we look forward to your participation in this year’s First Year Reading Initiative.

Bashar W. Hanna
Associate Provost for
