Add the “New York Times” to the media outlets that have been giving across-the-board plaudits to “Ten Thousand Saints,” the debut novel by assistant professor of writing Eleanor Henderson. Her coming-of-age story will be featured on the cover of this Sunday’s edition of the “New York Times Book Review.”
Reviewer Stacey D’Erasmo notes that Henderson, “writes the hell out of every moment, every scene, every perspective, every fleeting impression, every impulse and desire and bit of emotional detritus. She is never ironic or underwhelmed; her preferred mode is fierce, devoted, and elegiac.”
“Ten Thousand Saints” was listed by Amazon.com as one of the “Best Books of the Month” for June and included on the recommended summer reading lists of the “Los Angeles Times” and “New York Daily News.” NPR, “O, the Oprah Magazine,” “Publishers Weekly,” and “Library Journal” are among the others weighing in with positive reviews for the book, which was released by Ecco Press on June 7.
Henderson is currently on a promotional tour that has taken her to notable bookstores on both the East and West Coasts. Local readings are scheduled for later this summer.
