Residential Life is seeking interested faculty for two Faculty Associate positions in the First-Year Residential Experience (FYRE) Program and one Faculty Fellow for the HOME (Housing Offering a Multicultural Experience) Program for the 2011-2012 academic year.

FYRE Faculty Associates

FYRE currently houses 300 first-year students in Boothroyd, Rowland, and Tallcott Halls in the upper Quads and 320 students in the East Tower.  The program is designed to provide first-year students with a strong residential experience that fosters community, promotes interactions with faculty and staff, and provides engaging activities and programs that assist students in their transition to college.  The Faculty Associate position provides an opportunity to interact with students in their living environment and to promote intellectual curiosity and academic success.

The responsibilities of the FYRE Faculty Associate include participating in Residence Hall opening on Sunday, August 28, 2011 to meet new students and parents, an August orientation meeting with staff on August 29 or 30th, facilitating a group discussion on the First Year Reading Initiative book Ransom on August 30th following the FYRI kickoff event, and participating in four additional points of contact with students over the academic year.  Faculty Associates must be full-time faculty members, and are eligible to receive $500 for professional travel, payroll deduction, or to purchase class resources/instructional materials.

HOME Faculty Fellow

The HOME Program - Housing Offering a Multicultural Experience - is located in Terrace 3 and provides new and returning students with an opportunity to live in a culturally diverse environment where they can experience, discuss, and learn about cross-cultural and global issues.  HOME houses the Park and MLK scholars, along with other interested students.  Programs offered in HOME include guest lectures, information sessions about study abroad, film discussions, cultural exchange dinners, and art and music events.

The responsibilities of the Faculty Fellow in HOME includes attending an August planning meeting with the Residence Director and RA staff, attending the HOME Program opening orientation event during the first two weeks of the semester, attending community dinners, and planning and presenting programs/leading discussions that relate to cultural diversity and social justice education.

Faculty Fellows must be full-time faculty members, and are eligible to receive $1100 for professional travel, payroll deduction, or to purchase class resources/instructional materials.

If you are interested in either faculty position, please email a letter of interest to Ron Trunzo, Associate Director of Residential Life and Judicial Affairs, rtrunzo@ithaca.edu by July 29, 2011.  If you have any questions please contact Ron via email or by phone at  274-3141.
