Ithaca College Website to Have New Look

When you visit the Ithaca College website after Wednesday evening, Aug. 31, you’ll see something a little different. As part of the College’s overall branding effort, the site has been designed to reflect the new IC brand identity and make it more attractive and user-friendly, both for the casual visitor and frequent campus user.

The first things you will notice are the new IC logo and the prominent use of the official Ithaca College blue color, with design elements reflecting the curved arch of the emblem in the logo. These design aspects represent just a few of the new brand identity standards that will be implemented across all mediums for the College starting Sept. 1, 2011. More details regarding the new brand identity will be shared on Intercom next week.

In concert with the "Ready" brand identity, the home page content of the website will include featured student and alumni stories. The home page will also be less static so that more content and messages can be viewed in a single visit.

Navigating the website will also be easier. While the organization of the site has not changed, moving between pages should be more straightforward. When you click on a heading at the top of a page, for example, a view of the contents of that section appears so that you don’t instantly leave the page you are viewing.

The new site was created through a partnership between the Office of Marketing Communications and Information Technology Services. An outside firm hosted focus groups and conducted design usability testing to ensure the new site was intuitive and simple to navigate. The firm's recommendations and feedback were used to refine the design.

It's important to note that the redesign won't change anything for those on campus who post content on the Ithaca College website; Web Profile Manager (WPM) will still be the primary content management system.
