First-Year Reading Initiative presents speaker Dr. Jonathan Shay

Distinguished speaker Dr. Jonathan Shay uses Ransom to explain the first-year experiences in college

 

You have the privilege to see Dr. Jonathan Shay, a former staff psychiatrist at the Department of Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic, as he addresses the first-year students and the connection between college experiences and the book Ransom by David Malouf.

 

Shay is best known for his practice in treating trauma war patients by relating their experiences in war to that of Homer’s Iliad and the Odyssey

 

Dr. Shay received his B.A. form Harvard College, has an “ABD” from the GSAS at Columbia, and an MD-PhD from the University of Pennsylvania.

 

All first-year students and new students are highly encouraged to attend this special event on Wednesday, September 21st at 8 p.m in Emerson Suites.
