Janet Green '78 will serve as this year's National Coming Out Day speaker. Greens’s talk "Intersex: What Is It, And Why You Should Care" will take place on Thursday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m downtown at the First Unitarian Society, 306 North Aurora Street (the corner of Aurora and Buffalo Streets in downtown Ithaca), in conjunction with an LGBT community gathering in commemoration of National Coming Out Day.
Janet Green is a patient advocate and currently serves as the Accord Alliance Interim Executive Director. Janet’s early medical experiences as a patient with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) left her with a unique sensitivity to and passion for the needs of patients, families, and physicians related to treating Disorders of Sex Development (DSD). She has spent the past decade educating healthcare providers, families, patients, and the general public about the negative consequences of early surgical intervention and concealed care. She was a contributor and member of the international consortium on the creation of the new DSD guidelines. Janet is a trustee of Continuum Health Partners in New York City. She is also on the Board of Overseers of Beth Israel Medical Center in New York and co-chairs the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in communications and psychology from Ithaca College.
It's an IC tradition - each year we host a featured speaker with ties to the campus or local community in commemoration of National Coming Out Day. In past years, highlighted speakers have included notable people in the fields of research, media, writing, the arts, advocacy and activism, and law and public policy. Please join us for our 10th annual speaker, this year held in conjunction with a campus/community celebration of National Coming Out Day 2011.
Co-sponsored with the First Unitarian Society of Ithaca, Ithaca LGBT Task Force, and Out for Health LGBT Health and Wellness Project.
