Two short films by John Scott, associate professor in the Department of Television-Radio, have been selected to be screened at the Coolidge Shorts for the month of September at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, MA.
Both films, One Art and Sandpiper, are adaptations from Elizabeth Bishop’s Poems. Cinema, Photography, and Media Arts Assistant Professor Jason Harrington created animation for both projects.
Sandpiper and One Art have also been selected to screen at the Co-Kisser Poetry Film Festival in Minneapolis on October 8, 2011. One Art is currently part of an art gallery exhibition at The ViewPoint Gallery in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
These two shorts are part of a larger, long-form documentary in development called, Elizabeth Bishop and the Art of Losing. Scott considers these shorts “sketches” that will under go many changes before becoming part of the documentary.
The film projects were funded in part by a Pendleton Grant through the Roy H. Park School of Communications. For more information and to watch the shorts, visit Scott’s website at http://magpieproductions.com/.
