At the football game against Cortland State (Cortaca Jug)
As you may know, the attendance at all Ithaca College home football games is quite good and offers outstanding support for our players and coaches. Television coverage for all home games through ICTV enables us to provide quality viewing for local… and through web streaming capabilities, national audiences. On behalf of our student athletes and coaches, thank you for your support.
However, there is one thing I would like to bring to your attention and ask for your understanding and cooperation. On occasion, spectators attend our games wearing t-shirts with inappropriate and offensive wording inscribed. I strongly urge that patrons wearing such apparel reconsider their choice of attire.
We all recognize everyone’s right to freedom of expression and we also know when something just doesn’t seem to be right. I believe that fans wearing offensive t-shirts to Ithaca College athletic events – or anywhere for that matter, damage the reputation of our College and present themselves, IC, our teams and all of us in a bad light. I ask that our fans do not create, promote, or wear t-shirts that include inappropriate language or gestures. This is not what we are about as a community of learners and it is time to put this type of behavior behind us.
At the football game against Cortland State (Cortaca Jug) on November 12, let’s take the high road in support of Bomber football. Everyone connected with IC has a responsibility to represent the College with class, dignity and respect! I am confident that our community will be better served through t-shirt messages that support the Bombers in a respectable manner and not offend or degrade our opponents, and that each of us will be proud to represent Ithaca College with enthusiasm and in a positive way.
