Now that we have your attention...Come enjoy a couple cookies and hear more about an exciting opportunity to gain some valuable experience.
Are you considering a career that would require you to design and/or deliver education or training? Would you like the opportunity to gain real teaching experience in a real classroom here on campus? We are looking for current juniors that would like to partner with an IC faculty member teaching in the Ithaca Seminar program.
The Peer Mentoring Program partners a student Peer Mentor with a faculty member teaching an Ithaca Seminar course in the Fall 2012 semester. The adventure begins by first completing a 2 credit course in the Spring 2012 semester that is designed to prepare you to become an effective peer mentor. You will then work directly with your faculty partner in delivering 6 classroom educational experiences for first year students in the seminar course.
Here is what some current Peer Mentors had to say about the experience.....
"Peer Mentoring in an Ithaca Seminar has offered me the opportunity to work closely with a professor and to gain knowledge about what goes into running a class. It's a great experience." Karlita Bleam, Double Major: Cinema and Photography, Sociology; Minor: Women's Studies
"Peer Mentoring is about building relationships; it's helped me really get to know some first-year students and remind me of what it was like. It also forges close relationships between students and professors. Overall, it's been an awesome experience." Megan Gaul, Major: History
"There is no better way to learn about teaching than to actually teach." Dallas Koller, Major: Sports Studies, Minor: Outdoor Recreation
Does this sound like the challenge that you have been looking for.......does it sound like something that would move you a step closer to your future career?
