“Wine and cheese are ageless companions, like aspirin and aches, June and moon, or good people and noble ventures.”

M.F.K. Fischer, Vin et Fromage: An Odyssey for Wine and Cheese Lovers (1981)

The Ithaca College Center for Faculty Excellence and the Faculty Development Committee invite you to attend its Fall Wine and Cheese Social, 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, on Wednesday, November 9, in McDonald Lounge at the Campus Center Building. Called Open Spaces, this event encourages you to take a well-earned break from your busy semester and discuss ongoing scholarly and creative projects with old and new friends.

“A single conversation over a shared snack with a wise acquaintance,” said Longfellow “is better than ten years mere study of books.” This is particularly true in the Academy. Good food and good conversation generate good ideas, and McDonald Lounge provides an open space for all three. Candlelit tables will offer ease and comfort. Sip red, white, or rosé wines. Sample Cheddar, Muenster, Roquefort, or Swiss cheese. Discuss the latest discovery in astrophysics or recite a vintage translation of Rumi. If the weather cooperates, take a moonlight stroll on the center’s flagstone patio.

It is more important, however, to share your light of knowledge with colleagues. Your work defines and sustains this campus, so come to this event and celebrate our academic community. As a New York City cop observed at a Columbia mixer: “This is your wine and cheese crowd. Nothing ever goes wrong at such events.”

This wine and cheese social is open to all faculty, so please bring a colleague from your department. You will receive a ticket for a free glass of wine. Additional drinks can be purchased at the cash bar.  Gift baskets of local artisan breads and cheeses and will be awarded as door prizes. But the real prize will be meeting you at this event.

Register here.

We look forward to seeing you!
