Mara Alper’s documentary, Visions of the Huichol, was curated for screening in the “Cinema Wixarika” film festival in Guadalajara, Mexico in September 2011. Curator Carlos Escobedo selected it to show the story of the bead and yarn artworks made by this traditional tribe in Mexico.
The film is bilingual, with the Spanish translation made by Annette Levine, associate professor in Modern Languages and Literatures.
The project was partially funded through CFRD, the Provost’s Office Creative Projects grant, and a James B. Pendleton grant. Students in the Roy H. Park School of Communications assisted with the editing process.
Visions of the Huichol was also invited to be part of an on-going exhibit at the Mexican Cultural Center in Denver beginning in October 2011.
