David Turkon of the Anthropology Department attended the Northeastern Workshop on Southern Africa (NEWSA) in Burlington, VT from October 21 to 23. NEWSA hosts two hour panels with three or four papers each that are are distributed ahead of time so that attendees can pre-read them. After brief comments by authors, to identify theoretical or methodological approaches that they are trying to sharpen or develop, a discussant critiques each approach, identifies common themes and then leads the panel and attendees through intensive discussion. David acted as discussant in a workshop entitled Food Insecurity and Crises in Care.
