Please Take Short Survey on Clickers to Provide Input for Selection of New System

IC currently supports eInstruction PRS as its student response system.  This system is being phased out by the vendor so ITS and a faculty advisory group are currently reviewing new options for implementation by Fall 2012.  We would like to offer the opportunity for anyone interested to participate in a short survey.  If you currently use clickers or are considering using clickers, please complete it by Friday, November 18, 2011.

See below for some examples of how faculty members are using clickers in the classroom.

• "Clickers provide the opportunity for me to check individual understanding efficiently and in a confidential way, review topics recently covered to facilitate long-term memory storage, introduce discussions and new topics, and provide practice test opportunities.  They also provide natural breaks in the lecture, and this can be very useful when teaching for long periods of time." Barb Johnson, Speech Pathology

• "I am using clickers in our Principles of Biology intro course.  It has been great in getting a sense for what the 120 students are understanding before moving on and for giving sample exam questions for their practice." Maki Inada, Biology
   
• "I like using clickers in my large (200 student) class because it makes students think and participate regarding what they've just heard and not just listening to the same people answering the questions raised.  I'm able to use more thought-provoking questions and use-case studies." Nancy Jacobson, Biology
   
• "The main way clicker use has impacted my teaching is that it has allowed me to involve all the students in interaction, and get feedback from all of them (not just a small sample).  Normally I teach with an interactive style and call on students, but at best only a third of the students regularly respond and fewer respond for any given lecture.  The clickers force everyone to respond, and I can see if there are substantial misconceptions that I might miss if I was only hearing from the top students (who are willing to raise their hand to venture an answer).  This has been invaluable for my large introductory class." - Andy Smith, Biology
