Active Minds, a campus student mental health awareness and advocacy organization, presented a workshop at the Active Minds 8th National Mental Health on Campus Conference.  The conference was held at the University of Maryland's College Park campus, November 18-20, 2011.

Ten students, along with their advisor at the University of Maryland in College Park, November 18-20, 2011., LeBron Rankins, traveled to the University of Maryland to attend the conference.   Students, Sophia Terazawa ‘13, Allie Fiete ‘12 and Erin Irby ‘12, accompanied by Joe Fraioli ’09, presented about the development of Speak Your Mind Panels.

Speak Your Mind Panels (SYM-Panels) were developed to increase students awareness about mental health issues and decrease the stigma about seeking help when needed.   SYM-Panels are comprised of students who talk candidly about ways in which mental illness has impacted their lives.  Active Minds at Ithaca College has presented SYM-Panels in a number of classrooms and other venues on and off campus.

SYM-Panels empower students and panelists alike.  If you would like to learn more about Active Minds’ SYM-Panels, contact Active Minds at activeminds@gmail.com
