Have you noticed them in the Pub?

If you've been in the pub at noon this week, you have probably heard the shouts of Occupy IC protestors or attended one of the information sessions they have been holding. The main goal of these sessions has been to raise awareness of the disturbance that has been occurring nationwide, so that Ithaca College students are not isolated from changes that are occurring in the real world. Maybe you disagree with the actions taken, they are disruptive. But that's the point.

Whatever your beliefs about the Occupy movement, or about Occupy IC, Occupy IC supporters urge you to make your voices heard. They are trying to do this in a constructive manner and are open to any opinions, and hope the same is true of the community that they love. Each student is involved in this national movement, it will shape their future. Occupy IC urges students to take an active role in this; change can only be feared when we do not participate in shaping it.

On Friday, to conclude Occupy IC's week of action, a large General Assembly will be taking place where Occupy IC began: at the Free Speech Rock in the Campus Center Quad, at noon. Every student and professor is urged to come, and Occupy IC would like to extend a special invitation to anyone who believes that their opinion has not yet been heard. This is the time to tell your fellow students the changes you want to see in your country, to recommend ways of achieving them, and take an active role in the democracy we are all a part of.

The ideals that shape the future are those of passionate politicians, financial executives, professionals, religious and military leaders, and now those who stand in solidarity with Occupy Together. If we remain passive vessels for our beliefs, we will never see them brought to reality.

We are the 99%
