At the recent North East Association of Institutional Researchers (NEAIR) meeting, Martha Gray, IC's Director of Institutional Research, was awarded the 2011 Distinguished Service Award. This award is given to each year to the one individual who best exemplifies the professional qualities of an institutional researcher.
In the citation for this award, fellow institutional researchers noted that Martha "has impacted the professional lives of dozens of people, through her work as a mentor in the NEAIR mentorship program, through personal relationships she's forged at NEAIR or HEDS, or by recruiting people from her home institution into IR. She cares about the professional development of the people she meets, and is always looking to bring new leaders into the fold."
Mitch Nesler, the Vice-President for Planning and Institutional Effectiveness at Empire State College, gave the nominating speech for the award. He said that "combined with a commanding presence, a clear vision and a strong voice, her leadership at meetings set the bar for how a prototypical NEAIR president should act. As president myself, I generally fell short of her example, but I often thought to myself 'what would Martha Gray do if she were here?'"
Please join me and everyone in the IC Office of Institutional Research in congratulating Martha on this achievement.
