ITS recently put in place some modifications to the myHome at Ithaca portal that include a shorter header, and some tools that allow for ease of sharing and promoting portlets.
Shorter myHome Header
We have received feedback, especially from Webmail users, that it would be nice if the myHome header weren’t so tall, allowing more room for viewing content below it. This feedback and the emergence of widescreen monitors as a standard were enough reason to make the change. The new header is about half the height of the old header. We hope the additional screen real estate will make using myHome a better experience.
Portlet Sharing Tools
We also added some new features that will help in the sharing and promotion of myHome portlets. In the past if someone wanted to advertise a portlet, they would need to instruct a person to log in, go to the Add Content library, search for the portlet, and then drag it down to their myHome tab. The new tools allow the sharing of a simple link, that when clicked, will take the user to myHome and prompt them to add the portlet to their myHome layout.
Each portlet has a unique sharing link which can be found under the portlet’s settings drop-down pane. Simply click the “Share this Portlet” link to get that portlet’s sharing URL.
We hope that this will make myHome an even better place to post and share information with the campus.
