The first Sustainability Café of the Spring 2012 series, held on Monday, February 6th, will feature Dr. Susan Christopherson from Cornell University, speaking on “Hydraulic Fracturing: How should we think about the economic effects?”. The Café will be held in Center for Natural Sciences Room 112 at 4:00PM.
Professor Susan Christopherson is an economic geographer in the Department of City and Regional Planning at Cornell University. Her research focuses on economic policy and economic development, with a special emphasis on strategies to revitalize the New York State economy. In May 2010 she received grants from the Park Foundation and the Heinz Endowments to direct a study of the economic development consequences of natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale using the highly controversial hydraulic fracturing process (also known as "hydrofracking" or "fracking"). Susan is currently engaged in a follow-up project to examine local community responses to shale gas issues in Marcellus shale states.
