Ithaca College has announced the appointment of Linda Petrosino as the new dean of the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance. Petrosino — who holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in speech pathology from Ithaca College — has served since 2002 as dean of the College of Health and Human Services at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

“Linda Petrosino brings to this position a commitment to excellence in teaching and research, a record of outstanding administrative leadership, and enthusiasm for working collaboratively across the institution in support of our mission,” said Marisa Kelly, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “I am very excited to welcome Linda back to Ithaca College and look forward to working with her as part of our academic leadership team.”

Petrosino has had a lengthy career as a teacher, researcher, practitioner and administrator in the field of communication sciences and disorders. Prior to assuming her current position at Bowling Green, she served as associate dean of the College of Health and Human Services, chair of the Department of Communication Disorders and executive director of the Speech and Hearing Clinic. She previously served on the faculty and held the position of director of clinical services and training in speech-language pathology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

“It is an honor to accept this leadership position with the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance at Ithaca College,” said Petrosino. “The existing strength of the programs and faculty within the school, coupled with the current leadership of the college and dynamic student-centered strategic plan unfolding over the next decade, make Ithaca an amazing community to join. I look forward to getting to campus this summer to begin working with the entire IC community.”

Petrosino earned her Ph.D. in speech-language pathology from Ohio University and is a licensed, certified speech-language pathologist. The author of over 100 scholarly articles, she coauthored two chapters in the book “Speech and Language: Advances in Basic Research and Practice” and serves as a consulting editor for the Journal of Psychology and Communication Disorders Quarterly.

Currently a director on the board of the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions, she has also held leadership roles with the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and Council of Graduate Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Among other honors, she has been named a fellow of the Association of Allied Health Professions and of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and was given an Award of Appreciation from the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Petrosino will start her new position during the summer. She succeeds Steven Siconolfi, who had served as dean since 2002. John Sigg, associate dean and associate professor of exercise and sport sciences, has served as interim dean for the past academic year.
