The Handwerker Gallery is pleased to announce that Chris Holmes, assistant professor in the Department of English, will deliver a talk entitled "No Museum Piece: The Paradox of South African Literature" on Thursday, March 22, at 6.00 p.m..
Holmes’ talk examines the paradoxes that exist in the South African novel, not as a model of art in an age of popular democracy, but rather as a mode of the democratic imagination. "No Museum Piece: The Paradox of South African Literature" forms a unique bridge between literature and artwork as Holmes analyzes pertinent questions that raise new ideas associated with the works in Voices: Truth, Identity, and Art from Africa, the current exhibition at the Handwerker.
All Handwerker Gallery events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.; Thursday, 10.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m.; and weekends, noon to 5.00 p.m.. The gallery is closed to the public on Tuesdays unless otherwise specified for an event but can accommodate group or class visits by appointment.
