Seven students from the physical therapy program spent their Spring Break in Washington DC, as the culmination of Clinical Associate Professor Barb Belyea's course on Military Medicine.
The students visited a variety of military clinical sites including Ft Myer (where an IC alumna is the Physical Therapist who works with the Honor Guard), Ft. Belvoir, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, National Rehabilitation Hospital, and the DC VA Medical Center.
Students had the opportunity to tour the facilities, network with professionals working in this unique area of rehabilitation, and observe state-of-the art technology being utilized in the treatment of wounded warriors.
They met with representatives on Capitol Hill to discuss policy and funding issues facing health care for the military, and also found time to fit in some community service activities and visits to the national monuments and memorials.
Students participating in the experience were: Barry Beranek, Jaclyn Boss, Meghan Pietrobono, Michael Post, Lisa Radley, Jillian Santer, and Meghan Taglang.
