Dear Student-Athletes,
In honor of Division III Student Athlete Appreciation Week, the Ithaca College Office of Intercollegiate Athletics would like to thank you for not only your commitment and dedication to Bomber Athletics, but also your commitment to your academics as well as to the local community.
Representing the sports of baseball, football, wrestling, women’s track and field and men’s track and field. IC student athletes claimed six Academic All-American honors in 2010-2011, as well as 13 academic all-district selections representing 12 different sports. Field hockey, gymnastics, men’s soccer and women’s soccer all earned team academic awards. In the fall of 2011 student athletes had an average GPA of 3.261, slightly exceeding that of the overall student body. We are proud of your academic achievements and honors received.
Many of you have volunteered at Loaves and Fishes and Immaculate Conception’s food kitchen, adopted families in need during the holidays and assisted families across the state who were affected by the floods of 2011. There are those of you who have worked at Pud’s Run as well as the Cancer Resource Center’s 5K Run/Walk and then there are those who volunteered for Girls and Women in Sports Day or for GIAC’s fun day. While some were working with the Special Olympics, others were tutoring at local elementary and middle schools. Some teams joined larger non –profit organizations such as Relay for Life, the AIDS Ride for Life and Habitat for Humanity and others will be helping a local landmark, the State Theatre, with cleaning and repair work.
We are proud that our student athletes have come together to help raise thousands of dollars for some of the above listed organizations. It is appreciated that you have taken time out of your busy schedules to help the Ithaca community grow and to share your leadership skills and talents.
We wish you much continued success in the classroom, on the field and in the community.
Thank you for making it “A great day to be a Bomber!”
With regards,
The Office of Intercollegiate Athletics
