Student Nova Folders ("G" Drive) to be Disabled

Information Technology Services is in the planning stages for migrating user files from the Novell servers (Nova, Memphis, Pulsar) to the Active Directory servers this summer. Due to low usage by students of the Nova file storage service (commonly known as "G" drive), this service is being discontinued for students as of June 1, 2012.

There are several free file storage options available through the Web, including Microsoft SkyDrive, which will be offered through Microsoft Live@edu when the college moves the email system to that service over the summer. These online services are able to offer several gigabytes (GB) of storage, compared to the mere 100 megabytes (MB) currently offered to students on Nova.

Access to student personal folders on Nova will expire on June 1st. ITS recommends that students move their Nova files to a flash drive or to one of the free online services before leaving campus for the summer, as it is much easier to access Nova from an on-campus computer.

Note that this change only impacts student personal folders. It does not affect student or faculty access to any of the shared/course folders on Nova. Nor does it affect the access to "G" drive for any faculty or staff.
