As recently announced, Information Technology Services will begin deploying Windows 7 on newly-installed technology renewal computers beginning this summer. We recognize that some users may be anxious to have Windows 7 installed on their existing Windows XP computers, but please be aware of the following:
There is actually no "upgrade" option. Users will be required to back up their data and their existing Windows XP machine will then be "wiped" and have Windows 7 installed. Since this is a time consuming process for ITS desktop technicians and users, especially on a wide-scale basis, ITS will consider/prioritize Windows 7 installation requests (after June 1, 2012) based on several factors:
ITS is actively exploring options for getting all Windows XP computers upgraded to Windows 7. Please contact the ITS Helpdesk if you need Windows 7 installed on your current Windows XP machine.
