Online Summer Course Offering - two weeks in may

 BIOL 10600 Plants People and Food Production will be offered as a two-week online summer session course (3 credits). Attributes: GE 2a: Science, Liberal Arts, Natural Sciences. This course also counts towards a nutrition minor. Taught by Associate Professor, Peter Melcher. Learn about the food you eat, global population and enter into the curious world of plant biology.

If you like documentaries and short videos then this is a course for you.   If you are interested in the food that you eat, how it is grown and how your diet impacts your health, then you will find this course very interesting.  We will dive into the fascinating world of the premier food makers - The Plants. You will explore how plants function since all food comes from plants.  You will learn about the different types of agriculture to better understand the major differences between commercial, organics and sustainable food production.  You will learn about genetically altered foods and the problems that this has caused for many small farmers. We will explore the state of the oceans.  You will learn about the state of the global water supply.  Last we will explore how 7.2 Billion people impact Earth's natural resources and try to develop an understanding of what we have to do to reduce our impact so that 10 Billion people can live on it in the future.
