Congratulations Leadership Scholars Seniors

The Leadership Scholars program recognizes students with a demonstrated record of academic and co-curricular achievements. Students enter the program during their first year at Ithaca College and take on new leadership challenges every semester until they graduate. Components of the program include service projects, professional development, and leadership in student organizations – all recorded in personalized leadership portfolios that are presented to administrators and peers every semester. The program has a 99% retention rate for students who stay at Ithaca College all four years!

During the semester prior to graduation, all Leadership Scholars present a Senior Capstone to highlight who they have become as a leader and a scholar during their time at Ithaca College. The scholars may present on any experiences that have helped them develop leadership skills, and they are asked to discuss the impact of these experiences on their plans after IC, as well.

This year, 47 seniors presented capstones, covering a variety of topics:

• 23 scholars presented on their experiences leading student organizations
• 6 spoke about their time studying abroad or in the Los Angeles program
• 6 presented on their academic research or course-related experiential learning activities
• 5 presented on their experiences in athletics
• 5 covered what they gained from internships
• 2 presented on other events that broadened their perspectives

 The common themes of lessons learned from these experiences included: improved presentation and communication skills, enhanced time management and project management skills, increased confidence, understanding the importance of serving the community, and valuing experiences to directly apply knowledge in their career preparation. 

Congratulations to this outstanding group of seniors. Their leadership has contributed significantly to the Ithaca College community!
