Tina Caswell (Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology) to Lead Workshop at The Southern Tier Independence Center

Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Clinical Instructor Tina Caswell will be presenting at the Southern Tier Independence Center in Binghamton New York on Friday May 18, 2012.
"Let’s Have a Conversation!” (Creating Interactive Communication Boards) is a hands-on alternative/augmentative communication workshop for parents and professionals.
- Move beyond labeling and requesting, review new research about visual and verbal communication systems, learn about the different devices, and how vocabulary is used, programmed, and implemented.
- Discuss how devices should be utilized based upon researched information.
- Address wants and needs: Sharing and transferring information, social closeness, social etiquette, communication, competence, operational, linguistic, social, and strategic.
- Each parent will decide on three or four favorite and motivating activities that their child enjoys, the language will be discussed, and then a page will be programmed!
The workshop will be held on Friday May 18, 2012 from 9am to 1pm.
