Patricia R. Zimmermann, professor of screen studies and codirector of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, was an invited presenter at the 58th Annual Robert Flaherty Film Seminar, held this year at Colgate University from June 16-22.

Curated by Josetxo Cerdan, the theme of this year’s seminar was “Open Wounds.” Cerdan is director of the Punto de Vista International Documentary Film Festival in Navarra, Spain.

Zimmermann presented a special workshop with international Flaherty fellows on the history and significance of the Robert Flaherty Film Seminar, the longest continuously running gathering for independent film in the world.

She also facilitated a seminar post-screening discussion on Moana (Robert and Frances Flaherty, 1924, USA) and its new direct cinema soundtrack with Sami Van Ingen, Robert Flaherty’s great grandson and also an experimental filmmaker. British experimental filmmaker Ben Rivers also participated, screening a work in progress shot in the South Pacific.
