Marie Sanford, clinical associate professor in the department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, participated in two international conferences this summer.
She presented a paper co-authored by graduate student Julie Balazs (Class of 2013) at The Fifth International Conference of English as Lingua Franca held at Boğaziçi University, Istanbul Turkey. Their paper was entitled “The Effects of Auditory Discrimination and Content Shifts on Oral Proficiency in Non-native English Speakers.” Sanford received funding for her travel from the HSHP Dean’s Office and the Office of the Provost.
In June, Sanford presented a paper, “Interviewing Practices and the Interpretation of Children’s Statements: A Linguistic Perspective” at The Seventh International Conference on Interdisciplinary Social Sciences held at Universidad Abat Oliba University in Barcelona, Spain. Sanford has been conducting research on the child interviewing process and has served as an expert witness on this topic in the New York State Family Court system since 2003.
