My sabbatical during the spring of 2012 spanned two continents and multiple levels of biological organization - from cells to the African savannah.  This talk will describe my "adventures" in both science and travel.  I spent several months working in the lab of Dr. Ron Harris-Warrick at Cornell University studying ion channels in mouse spinal cord neurons.  I also spent two weeks in Kenya, exploring Africa and learning about the challenges, and rewards, of student-organized efforts to improve the lives of children in this  area.
