IC Researchers Awarded an NSF Grant to Study "Local Music Discovery"

An interdisciplinary team of researchers in Ithaca have been awarded National Science Foundation (NSF) Information & Intelligent System grant to study music recommendation and automatic playlist creation.

An interdisciplinary team of researchers in Ithaca have been awarded National Science Foundation (NSF) Information & Intelligent System grant to study music recommendation and automatic playlist creation. Ithaca College will receive $186,000 over the next three years to support undergraduate student research.

The grant is the result of a collaboration between Prof. Doug Turnbull (PI, Computer Science) and Prof. Thorsten Joachims (PI, Computer Science, Cornell University), as well as Prof. Adam Peruta and Prof. Will Ryan (Strategic Communications) in the Park School of Communications, and Brian Dozoretz and Prof. Alex Perialas (Sound Recording Technology) in the Whalen School of Music.

Ithaca College students Richard Roberts '12, Kris Stensland '14, Zach Gilson '13, and Alex Spirgel '14 have all made significant contributions to this ongoing research project.
