Update on Planned Search for a New Vice President for Finance and Administration

10/25/12

Dear Campus Community,

I write to update you on planning for a search to replace Carl Sgrecci as Vice President for Finance and Administration after his retirement next August 31.  The role of “Chief Business Officer” is crucial for IC, perhaps never more so than today given the rapid changes in the higher education competitive landscape.

I am pleased to announce that Nancy Pringle, Vice President and General Counsel, has agreed to chair this search.  The other committee members are:

Scott Erickson, Professor of Marketing and Law.
David Garcia, Associate Provost for Business Intelligence.
Robert Hohn, Class of 2014 with a major in teaching Math and Computer Science, and a minor in Comm Studies.
Steve Lahr, Associate Professor and Program Director in Physical Therapy.

Steve McCluski, IC alumnus, chair of the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees, and former CFO of Bausch & Lomb.
Bonnie Prunty, Director of Residential Life and Judicial Affairs, and Assistant Dean for First Year Experiences.
Mary Ellen Zuckerman, Dean of the School of Business.

The search committee will take the lead in reviewing and prioritizing candidates, issuing invitations for campus visits, and ultimately making recommendations to me concerning the best candidates for IC.  They are a wonderful group and I thank them for their commitment to this service.

We have retained Liz Neumann, principal in the firm Brill, Neumann, to assist us in the search.  Brill, Neumann is a leader in academic searches with a specialty in finance and business leadership positions.  The firm has a great reputation and a wide network in this field.  I know we will be well served by their efforts to develop a deep pool of highly qualified candidates.

Liz Neumann will come to Ithaca in early November to meet with the search committee and other groups and individuals.  She will develop an understanding of our key institutional accomplishments and challenges, and of what we are looking for in our next Chief Business Officer.  Advertising and the assembly of a candidate pool will begin in January.  It will be our goal to make an appointment by the end of the semester for someone who can start late summer.

Nancy Pringle will send updates to the campus from time to time as the search progresses.
