Ali Erkan (Computer Science) and Michael Smith (History/ENVS) gave two different presentations at the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning annual meeting on their National Endowment for the Humanities sponsored project "Untangling the Web of Historical Thinking."
Their first presentation focused on the development of an assessment tool, a pre-post survey about student attitudes toward the study of history. The Humanities Adaptation of the Maryland Physics Expectation survey (HAMPEX), is an attempt to borrow some of the theoretical underpinnings of the MPEX survey for the humanities. They also presented their new thinking about how students can use wikis (or Google-docs) to produce concept maps of their evolving understanding of history.
