The Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday will be celebrated in 2013 on the National holiday of Monday, January 21 and throughout the first week of classes. MLK Week 2013 marks the 18th annual Ithaca College community celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his teachings.
The MLK planning committee is proud to announce the 2012 MLK Week theme: Make a Career of Humanity.
“Make a career of humanity. Commit yourself to the noble struggle for equal rights. You will make a greater person of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live in.” MLK Speech Before the Youth March for Integrated Schools: On 18 April 1959, King, along with several other civil rights leaders, including Daisy Bates, Harry Belafonte, A. Philip Randolph, Jackie Robinson, and Roy Wilkins, spoke before 26,000 black high school and college students who had come to the nation's capital to demonstrate their support for the 1954 Supreme Court decision against racial segregation in the nation's public schools. The planning committee is soliciting educational sessions as part of this week of celebration and service.
Educational sessions will be held on Monday, January 21 from 10 :00 – 11:30 am; on Monday, January 21 from 2:00 – 3:30 pm; on Tuesday, January 22 from 12:10 – 1:00 pm; and on Thursday, January 24 from 12:10 – 1:00 pm. Educational presentations can be proposed by faculty, staff, student organizations or individual students wishing to present original research.
Educational session proposals should be submitted utilizing this on-line form. Proposals must be submitted no later than Friday December 7. Once all proposals have been received, I will get back in touch with you before December 14 to confirm your presentation time and location.
