On Wednesday, December 5, at 7:30 pm, in Business 103, Batya Kallus will speak on the question of what it means for Arab and Jewish citizens of Israel to live together in a shared society.
How can that be accomplished, given sharp political, social, and religious divides between Arabs and Jews? What are the barriers and opportunities for shared society? How can a shared society overcome interethnic differences? What is the impact of the Israeli occupation on shared society and the assumptions of shared society in Israel?
Batya Kallus is passionate about the necessity for equality and shared society between Arab and Jewish citizens of Israel. She works as a philanthropic advisor to donors supporting equality, shared society and social justice in Israel. She is currently employed as the senior program officer for the Moriah Fund, and for the last ten years has worked as the Israel advisor to the Fohs Foundation, a private American foundation that funds organizations which advance shared society and equality between Arab and Jewish citizens in Israel.
Kallus has a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts-Boston in community planning, and a Master’s in Human Service Management from the Heller School at Brandeis University. Originally from Boston, MA, Batya lives in Jerusalem.
