Dan Isbell, Assistant Professor in the Ithaca College School of Music, recently returned from giving a guest presentation at The Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford.
The presentation, funded by a grant from the local NafME chapter was titled "Developing Vernacular Musicianship: An Alternative Pedagogy for Music Education." In the presentation I examined the ways people experience music informally outside of school and formally within school music programs and focused on the skills required to make music in a wide variety of settings. Audience members formed small ensembles, chose music to learn by ear, and performed for each other.
The presentation was covered in Harrt news here.
