Paris Study Abroad Course Opportunity with Ithaca College faculty this summer, May 23-June 5, 2013.
There will be an informational meeting on January 30 in Gannett 112 at 5:30pm.
Professors Lauren O'Connell and Jennifer Germann, Department of Art History, will be offering a 12-day short-term summer course in Paris from May 23-June 5, 2013, pending final approval by Ithaca College. Called “Art and Politics in Paris: Reading Power in Space and Image,” this course will focus on the ways in which royal, national and popular power can be read in the architecture and image collections of the French capital. Through site visits to museums, buildings, and urban and garden spaces in and around Paris, students will learn about the capacity of the visual arts to serve and challenge those in power.
This course is intended for a general undergraduate audience, will interest students curious about the art, language, history, and culture of France, and provides 3B GH credit. We will be piloting a custom-built iPad app, built by IC Computer Science faculty and computer science and art history students, as an element of the course. There are no prerequisites for this course.
Contact either Jennifer Germann (jgermann@ithaca.edu) or Lauren O'Connell (oconnell@ithaca.edu) if you are interested in learning more.
