Illustrations from the board book series Cozy Classics, co-written and co-illustrated by Associate Professor Jack Wang of the Department of Writing and his brother Holman Wang, have been selected for the Illustrators Exhibition at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair from March 25-28, 2013 in Bologna, Italy.

Now in its fiftieth year, the Bologna Children’s Book Fair is “the most important international event dedicated to the children’s publishing and multimedia industry,” and the Illustrators Exhibition is a premiere showcase of “the most innovative trends in children’s illustration at a world level.” The Wang brothers are among 87 illustrators—and only four from North America—selected from over 3,000 entries by an international jury of publishers, artists, and museum directors.

In addition to being exhibited in Bologna, their needle-felted illustrations will appear in the Book Fair Annual and in several Japanese museums as part of a traveling show sponsored by the Japan Board on Books for Young People.

Cozy Classics is a new board book series that presents well-loved stories through twelve child-friendly words and twelve needle-felted illustrations. The first two titles in the series, Pride and Prejudice and Moby Dick, were released in November of 2012. Two new titles, Les Misérables and War and Peace, are forthcoming in May of 2013, and three more titles, Jane Eyre, Oliver Twist, and Emma, will appear in the fall of 2013.

Described as “remarkable” by The Telegraph (UK) and “a service to literate families everywhere” by The Wall Street Journal, Cozy Classics has been featured in Publishers Weekly, Poets & Writers, New York Magazine, Huffington Post Books, The Paris Review Daily, CBC Books, The Vancouver Sun, The Toronto Star, and ICView, among other places, and was selected by the Australian Booksellers Association for its 2012-13 Kids’ Reading Guide.
