Retirees in Service to the Environment (RISE), a volunteer program at Ithaca College, is seeking local retirees for this comprehensive training program, April 5-May 17. Trainings will be held Friday mornings at Longview, just up the road from the college.

The Spring 2013 RISE program is a joint project of the Ithaca College Gerontology Institute, the Ithaca College Natural Lands, the Dept. of Environmental Studies and Sciences, and Longview, a residential community for older adults.

The program launches with an initial orientation session (April 5), followed by six two-hour workshops with expert presentations, field trips, and experiential exercises to develop leadership skills. RISE will culminate in group participants choosing a local environmental volunteer role including, but not limited to, work on Ithaca College Natural Lands, with assistance by student interns. Participants must take part in two 20-minute telephone interviews, one at the beginning and another at the program’s end.

For more information or to sign up, contact Madison Vander Hill, the RISE Student Intern, at mvander1@ithaca.edu.

RISE is a comprehensive training program for retirees who wish to become involved in environmental volunteerism. A collaboration between Ithaca College and Cornell University, the program provides information about pressing environmental issues and training in leadership skills that will help volunteers work successfully in stewardship roles.
