Ithaca College Fuse, the twice-yearly magazine created by students for students, and Life at IC, a social media project showcasing daily student life, each earned bronze honors in the 2013 Cuppie Awards Program. Sponsored by the Association of Communicators in Education, the Cuppie Awards recognize creative excellence in marketing and communication in higher education. Ithaca College Fuse competed in the Print Publications - Magazine category; Life at IC in Electronic Media - Social Media. A panel of senior-level industry experts judged the entries.

Life at IC

Embarking on a social media strategy to capture daily student life, multimedia content specialist Rob Engelsman and his team of student assistants placed six disposable cameras in high-traffic areas on campus and attached a note inviting passing students to take photos of themselves interacting with their friends. The team of social media students checked the cameras every 90 minutes. In addition, video cameras were placed near the cameras to record footage of students interacting with each other. As a result, 155 photos and a two-minute video were posted to a Tumblr page built for the project. The project can be viewed at: http://lifeatic.tumblr.com

The students who assisted in this project were:

Chelsea Hartman ’15, Joe Morris ’14, Kourtney Day ’15, Katie Levittan ’14, Francesca Toscano ’14, Nina Varilla ’16, Ben Ratner ’14, Maddy Clark ’16, Cesidia Carosa ’15, Pat Sullivan ’15, Lindsey Smith ’14, Georgie Morley ’14, Alex Leslie ’14, Josh Sherman ’14, Jackie Burd ’13, and Jherane Patmore ’16.

Ithaca College Fuse

Throughout its six-year existence, Ithaca College Fuse has featured student writers, editors, and photographers sharing IC’s success stories with prospective students and their families. When Ready, the college’s comprehensive marketing campaign, was launched in 2011, the magazine was overhauled to bring it into visual alignment with the new campaign’s brand identity. The most significant design updates include the development of an all-new nameplate and cover treatment; new typography and supporting icons; a completely revamped table of contents; and the incorporation of stronger photography, illustrations, and infographics. Connecting every story in the magazine to core Ready messages visually and editorially supports Ready’s messaging goals for prospective students.
