City to Conduct Street Cleaning on South Hill

On Monday, March 18, the City of Ithaca Department of Public Works will begin its annual spring cleaning of all city streets, weather permitting. The schedule calls for some streets on South Hill to be among the first affected. Daily work areas will be posted as “NO PARKING” zones 24 hours in advance of the cleaning. All vehicles remaining on the street after 7:00 a.m. on the day of the scheduled cleaning will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

Students who park on the street should watch for signs and check on their cars daily from March 18–April 19, as street cleaning operations will move throughout the city during the next five weeks. This work is weather permitting and may need to be rescheduled in case of inclement weather.

If you will be away during this time, please make other parking arrangements for your vehicle. Vehicles may return to parking on the designated streets after the signs are removed.

Unfortunately, each year a number of people have their vehicles towed because they were not aware of the upcoming work and did not see or heed the signs posted on the streets. The city’s goal is to reduce the number of tows, which will save both residents and the city money, time, and inconvenience.

People in need of long term parking arrangements can call the Cayuga Parking Garage at 256-7275. Questions about the street cleaning program can be forwarded to the Streets and Facilities Office at 272-1718.

The schedule of the streets to be cleaned can be found here and on the City of Ithaca’s website at www.ci.ithaca.ny.us.
