CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Ithaca College senior Ricardo Gomez won the 125-pound title at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships this weekend in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Gomez, an accounting major from Brentwood, N.Y., is the 11th Bomber wrestler to win an individual national title. He is also the 23rd Bomber student-athlete all-time to win an individual national title, and that group has accumulated 30 national championships in total.

Gomez was the tournament’s top seeded wrestler and won four consecutive bouts over two days to earn the championship. He won the title by a 4-2 decision, and won an exciting semifinal bout by a 2-1 score in overtime. On the tournament’s first day, he won his opening bout by a 3-1 decision and pinned an opponent in the quarterfinals in 2:18.

Two of Gomez’s Bomber teammates also earned all-American honors at the NCAA Championships. Senior Jules Doliscar of Dix Hills, N.Y. placed second at 174 pounds and Alex Gomez of Brentwood, N.Y. was sixth at 133 pounds.

The Ithaca College wrestlers earned a total of 47 points over the two days of the tournament and placed fifth overall in team standings -- the fifth year in a row that the Bombers have earned a top-10 place, which is a school record. With three total all-America finishes, the Bombers now have 67 wrestlers that have totaled 104 overall all-America honors in program history.
