Commencement Weekend is an important milestone to the students we have worked with for the past 4 or more years. Please consider spending some of your Commencement Weekend working at this important event.
On Saturday, May 18, and Sunday, May 19, 2013, Ithaca College will hold the 118th Commencement weekend activities. Many of us have had daily contact with the fine men and women of the 2013 graduation class, and have played an important role in their experience at Ithaca College. We know that many of you would like to see the students whose lives you have touched take their final steps as Ithaca College students before graduation.
To ensure a smooth Commencement Ceremony and a positive experience for our graduates and their families, we need your assistance. There are many important roles to fill Commencement Weekend, which are described below. We especially need our help on Sunday, May 19 to assist with the over 11,000 guests who are expected to come to campus to celebrate with their graduate.
Most Commencement Day staff will be asked to arrive on campus on Sunday, May 19 at 6:30 am for a pre-event briefing (a light continental breakfast will be provided). Most staff will be asked to stay until one hour after the close of the Commencement Ceremony (approximately 12:30 – 1:00 pm). Staff may join the graduates at the academic receptions for light lunch fare.
Non-exempt/hourly employees who assist in this event will be paid time and a half. Your help is very much appreciated!

You will be assigned to roles based on your availability. You will be contacted before April 10 via email to confirm your assignment and to let you know of any additional information or training meetings.

Saturday, May 18
Commencement Eve Concert Ushers – The Ushers will assist families and guests in finding seating, distributing programs, answering questions and ensuring the safety of our guests at the Commencement Eve Concert. Concert ushers are expected to arrive at the A&E Center no later than 7:15 pm and stay through the close of the Concert at 9:45 pm.
Sunday, May 19
Commencement Day Field Attendants – The Field Attendants are responsible for helping our graduates and faculty find their seats in the appropriate areas on the stadium field.
Commencement Day Banner Carriers – Each Banner Carrier bears the banner for one of the three groups that constitute the Procession (Platform Party, Faculty, Students) and leads one of those groups into the stadium.
Commencement Day Stadium Ushers - Stadium ushers are responsible for all guest activities in the stadium including making our students’ families feel welcome, program distribution, guest seating, responding to questions and providing directions.
