The two-day event was held at the Grand Street Educational Campus in Brooklyn and was hosted by a partnership of The Music Educators Association of New York City (MEA-NYC) and The Office of Arts and Special Projects.
In addition to the orchestra, the festival also hosted an honor band, choir, and jazz band with guest conductors from around the state.
"Organizers are committed to making this a yearly event," Mick said, "We were all thrilled with the numbers of participating students and the level of performances given at the culminating concert."
Dr. Mick is Ithaca College's string pedagogue and is currently in his second year of teaching at the School of Music. He teaches introduction to music education classes and courses in conducting and rehearsal techniques, and he conducts the Ithaca College Sinfonietta, an all-campus full orchestra consisting primarily of non-music majors.
Additionally, he was recently appointed Music Director of the Ithaca Community Orchestra for the 2013-14 season. His research interests include string instrument vibrato, music preferences, and performance perceptions.
