Did you know that 1 in 6 American women has been the victim of rape or attempted rape?* The month of April is designated Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in the United States. The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence.
We want to hear from you. Do you have ideas for working together to raise awareness and help prevent sexual assault? Are you a student who is interested in partnering with a campus advisory committee to collaborate on ideas? Email your ideas to Terri Stewart tastewart@ithaca.edu and Linda Koenig lkoenig@ithaca.edu
At Ithaca College, the College Advisory Committee on Campus Security & Campus Life is comprised of faculty, staff and students who promote safety and security through review of campus policy and procedure and assessment of community education and outreach (for improvement). One of our major focus areas is to raise awareness and provide education and resources around sexual assault.
*For more information on sexual assault and its many forms, visit the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence against Women at www.ovw.usdoj.gov. If you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted please take a few minutes to review the vast amount of information and resources that the College makes available to the campus community via the Annual Security & Fire Safety Report. https://www.ithaca.edu/sacl/safety/docs/AnnualSecRep/2012ASR/
