Her term began at their annual meeting, held the first weekend in April at Stony Brook, SUNY.
"I'm pleased to represent Ithaca College at this important regional society of the music theory profession,” Jemian said of the accomplishment.
In her newly elected position, she will keep meeting minutes for the society’s meetings and generate newsletters. Jemian will also be working closely with the Local Arrangements chair for the Society's annual conference--the location of the meeting changes annually.
Established in 1971, the Music Theory Society of New York State serves as a forum for the exchange of information and ideas pertaining to teaching music theory, and to promote music theory as both a scholarly and a pedagogical discipline.
Currently the society has about 150 members, and about 50 institutions subscribe to its annual journal, Theory and Practice.
